Thor arrives, and tells Loki to be silent, referring to him as an “evil creature”, stating that with his hammer Mjöllnir he will silence Loki by hammering his head from his shoulders. Acknowledging that Thor has arrived, Loki asks Thor why he is raging, and says that Thor will not be so bold to fight against the wolf when he swallows Odin at Ragnarök. Thor again tells Loki to be silent, and threatens him with Mjöllnir, adding that he will throw Loki “up on the roads to the east”, and thereafter no one will be able to see Loki. Loki states that Thor should never brag of his journeys to the east, claiming that there Thor crouched cowering in the thumb of a glove, mockingly referring to him as a “hero”, and adding that such behaviour was unlike Thor. Thor responds by telling Loki to be silent, threatening him with Mjöllnir, and adding that every one of Loki’s bones will be broken with it. Loki says he intends to live for a long while yet despite Thor’s threats, and taunts Thor about an encounter Thor once had with the Skrýmir (Útgarða-Loki in disguise).

• Thanos stopped the knife with his Infinity Gauntlet and sarcastically mocked Loki for choosing the word “undying” while referring to his false allegiance, rebuking him for not choosing his words wisely.

Loki quickly removed the illusion he had cast and jumped on top of Foster in order to shield her while Thor used Mjølnir to shoot lightning at the Aether, dispersing it in an explosion. As the Dark Elves retreated to their giant ship, Malekith’s lieutenant Kurse stayed behind to keep Thor and Loki busy. However, Loki’s plan to use Hulk was only one aspect of his real intentions. More of his full scheme became clear as another jet carrying Hawkeye and the rogue agents came to his aid, following a signal from the Scepter.

In his attempt to maintain the favor of the Grandmaster, Loki vowed to bring both Thor and Hulk back to him within hours, although Scrapper 142 made the same promise. When Loki interrupted the Grandmaster, Topaz had responded by offering him the Melt Stick to punish Loki by destroying him, although Grandmaster insisted that interruption was not a crime punishable by death. The Grandmaster then sent Loki and Scrapper 142 to complete their task for him. While Loki was falling through an unknown space, Thor then visited Doctor Strange who offered to locate Odin on the condition that Loki, Odin, and Thor promptly returned to Asgard thereafter to avoid anything like the Battle of New York happening again.

• The two then made their way towards the deck, where Loki witnessed Thor officially becoming the new King of Asgard as he sits on his throne, with Loki finally accepting his brother as the king.

Hiddleston and Waldron were set to return as executive producers at that time. On the heels of the mind-bending WandaVision and action-forward The Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes the latest Disney Plus series from Marvel Studios, Loki. The six-part season 1 finds the God of Mischief himself transported from the events of 2012’s The Avengers to a drab office outside of the known MCU timeline, where the Time Variance Authority keeps a tab on humanity’s every action. After the destruction of Asgard, Loki and Thor seem to have fully reconciled. However, Loki still kept some of his mischiefs as he stole the Tesseract from Odin’s Vault before Asgard’s destruction. Added to this, Loki firmly believed that freedom was life’s great lie and that no-one was truly free and everyone was oppressed in some way.

As Loki watched from above, he happily awaited the arrival of the Champion who Thor would be fighting against. However, it had turned out that the champion was Hulk, to Loki’s shock and horror as he recalled how Hulk had beaten him senseless during the Battle of New York. Unwilling to be near Hulk again, Loki had attempted to leave Sakaar only for the Grandmaster to stop him as he insisted that Loki stay and watch the fight with him. Loki suggested to Thor that they betray the Grandmaster and allow him to die so they could control Sakaar together. Along with Thor, the two brothers fell through Doctor Strange’s portal where they found and joined Odin, who was standing alone on the edge of a cliff within Norway, watching over the entire landscape.

In the season 1 finale, Loki found himself in a TVA that he recognizes, but none of its employees know who he is. Clearly, He Who Remains’ death – at Sylvie’s hands – causes the Marvel multiverse’s various timelines to start intersecting – events known as Incursions, as explained further in Doctor Strange 2 – which are already causing havoc across the MCU. The god of mischief takes off on a mysterious time adventure in “Loki,” the third Disney+ original series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This proposed meaning of Loki’s name powerfully resonates with his role in Norse mythology in two ways. First, it points to his role as a maker of nets, both literal fish nets and metaphorical “nets” in the form of his cunning schemes that trap the gods in perilous situations.

Episode 2: Miss Minutes

Loki then threw Jane Foster before the Dark Elves, claiming his allegiance with them and his desire to watch Asgard burn. When Thor told Loki he wished he could trust him, Loki told him to trust his rage. Eventually, the battle subsided and appeared to have been won by the forces of Asgard, as Malekith had failed with his goal to reclaim the greatest weapon of the Dark Elves, the Aether. Not long after all the sounds of battle had died away and peace had seemingly been restored to Asgard, a guard had come to visit Loki and informed him that Frigga had been killed by the Dark Elves, who attacked Asgard at the same time as the prison riot also broken out.

As they leave, Útgarða-Loki asks Thor how he thought he fared in the contests. Thor says that he is unable to say he did well, noting that he is particularly annoyed that Útgarða-Loki will now speak negatively about him. Útgarða-Loki points out that the group has left his keep and says that he hopes that they never return to it, for if he had an inkling of what he was dealing with he would never have allowed the group to enter in the first place. Útgarða-Loki was in fact the immense Skrýmir, and that if the three blows Thor attempted to land had hit their mark, the first would have killed Skrýmir. In reality, Thor’s blows were so powerful that they had resulted in three square valleys.

Annoyed at the insults, Loki threw the inventor out of a window and was surprised when a freshly built Iron Man armor rocketed after him. Loki found himself under attack when the fully suited Iron Man rocketed back up to retaliate and, avenging Phil Coulson, knocked him back with an energy blast. As Coulson lay on the ground bleeding to death, he summoned the strength to tell Loki that he stood no chance of winning this war.

loki wakes up in the middle of the night, and a series of events occur where Thor twice attempts to kill the sleeping Skrýmir with his hammer. Skrýmir awakes after each attempt, only to say that he detected an acorn falling on his head or that he wonders if bits of tree from the branches above have fallen on top of him. Skrýmir gives them advice; if they are going to be cocky at the keep of Útgarðr it would be better for them to turn back now, for Útgarða-Loki’s men there won’t put up with it. Skrýmir throws his knapsack onto his back and abruptly goes into the forest.

Wilson plays the character warmly, making him seem a little aloof and maybe a bit in over his head. Compared to Loki’s rakish charisma, Mobius is decidedly unhip, a rule-follower of the bureaucracy that is the TVA. However, there also seems to be something simmering beneath the surface of Mobius’s “aww shucks” facade.

For example, he cuts off Sif’s hair for seemingly no reason other than it amuses him. While Loki may not have been favoured among the pagan Scandinavians, his popularity has increased in recent years along with a renewed interest in Norse mythology(something no doubt helped by Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the character in the Marvelmovies). Still, after the buzzy successes of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier earlier this year, it seemed unlikely Marvel would score with a third, high-quality Disney+ series based on a supporting character from its movies. Except, in this case, Hiddleston’s Loki is a legendarily duplicitous narcissist and murderer, convinced most of the universe consists of life forms destined to live under his rule. Mobius is a weary-yet-idealistic agent – resigned to the trudging, soulless bureaucracy of the TVA – and is well aware of the ways Loki will try to charm and manipulate him while he works the same game in reverse. Wilson plays a TVA agent who thinks Loki can help him solve a serious problem.

However, Heimdall knew he was now free of his oaths to the new king and responded by drawing Hofund and furiously swinging the blade at Loki.

Some time into Loki’s reign, Lorelei had escaped to Earth using one of the secret passageways between worlds. Loki, still disguised as Odin, ordered Sif to go capture Lorelei and bring her back to Asgard. Due to the enmity between Kree and Asgardians, Loki sent Sif to investigate. Seeing Thor being beaten into submission by Kurse, Loki ran to his brother’s aid.
